Book Launch 29th May 2018
On Wednesday 29th May we had the official launch of our book "A Book by Boys who Dare to be Authors". Our special guests on the day were Rose Henderson, Actor and Author and Amy from the Alzheimer's Association. We had a wonderful afternoon and many parents, grandparents and family members attended. The boys prepared a lovely array of canapes and some delicious cup cakes from Jake and rice krispie buns from Kealan.

Clara Lara
Even the dismal weather couldn’t dampen the boys’ spirits in Clara Lara yesterday! A great day had all round, apologies for all the bags of clothes that were added to the laundry pile last night!

Printing
We are working with print at the moment and made collograph prints out of cardboard. We cut out cardboard and created raised images which we then painted and used to make our prints. Have a look!
Drama performance
We are putting on a little performance in the next few weeks. Date to be confirmed, watch this space!! |
Persuasive writing - emails
We recently co-wrote an email to Creative Ireland, asking them to consider subsiding the cost of self-publishing in schools. Have a read of what we wrote...
Creative Ireland have since responded, thanking us for our email and giving us a contact number for a SDCC Creative Ireland co-ordinator! We'll let you know if we get anywhere with it!

Creative Ireland have since responded, thanking us for our email and giving us a contact number for a SDCC Creative Ireland co-ordinator! We'll let you know if we get anywhere with it!
To whom it may concern,
We are 5th class students in Ballyroan Boys School, Rathfarnham and we have
recently published a book of poetry and stories through the Emu Ink School
Publishing Programme.
We are writing to you because it has come to our
attention that the printing price per book is very high. It is great to have the
opportunity to see our stories and poems in print and we have had a great
time creating and publishing our anthology. However, the prohibitive price of €10
per book was a lot to ask parents to pay, especially if they wanted to buy more than one copy.
We live in a country that has a wealth of talented young authors, poets, songwriters
and playwrights. The Emu Ink Schools Publishing Programme is a fantastic way
to encourage more young people to be creative and imaginative. It gives them a chance
to see their work in print. Therefore, we think it would be great if you could find
a way to subsidise or help schools to meet the high costs of the printing programme. We think
that a lot more schools would avail of this programme and publish their collections of stories
or poems too.
We hope you agree that by giving a little financial assistance to schools like us who are
embarking on self-publishing, you are investing in the arts and culture of the future.
Kind regards

Book Launch
The official launch of our publication 'A Book by Boys who dare to be authors' will be next Wednesday at 1.45! Mums, dads, grannies, grandads, aunties and uncles are all welcome!! Hear poems and extracts read aloud by the boys, listen to our guest speakers and have a canape or two! Come and celebrate all things literary!
Yoga
As part of active week last week, we had a yoga class in the hall. An outside yoga teacher brought the boys through a series of yoga poses and relaxation techniques and it was fantastic!
