Creative Ireland have since responded, thanking us for our email and giving us a contact number for a SDCC Creative Ireland co-ordinator! We'll let you know if we get anywhere with it!
To whom it may concern,
We are 5th class students in Ballyroan Boys School, Rathfarnham and we have
recently published a book of poetry and stories through the Emu Ink School
Publishing Programme.
We are writing to you because it has come to our
attention that the printing price per book is very high. It is great to have the
opportunity to see our stories and poems in print and we have had a great
time creating and publishing our anthology. However, the prohibitive price of €10
per book was a lot to ask parents to pay, especially if they wanted to buy more than one copy.
We live in a country that has a wealth of talented young authors, poets, songwriters
and playwrights. The Emu Ink Schools Publishing Programme is a fantastic way
to encourage more young people to be creative and imaginative. It gives them a chance
to see their work in print. Therefore, we think it would be great if you could find
a way to subsidise or help schools to meet the high costs of the printing programme. We think
that a lot more schools would avail of this programme and publish their collections of stories
or poems too.
We hope you agree that by giving a little financial assistance to schools like us who are
embarking on self-publishing, you are investing in the arts and culture of the future.
Kind regards
5th class Ballyroan Boys' National School
