Gaeilge concerns

Hi all!

I've had a couple of concerns regarding the Gaeilge ☘. Please don't stress too much about it. The Gaeilge in 5th class is tricky, it is challenging and I totally understand that it's outside of many comfort zones (parents included!) There is a huge jump between 4th and 5th class and they are being really pushed with the Abair Liom programme.

I know this week's homework (leathanach 109) may have been a little tricky as we didn't go through the questions in class but the other activities shouldn't have prompted too much suffering 🙂. Remember, they don't have to understand every word of the poem but just get used to reading it aloud, experiencing the different sounds and words and maybe try stringing some meaning together from it.

Gaeilge is all about practice, exposure to words and being open to learning. It needs to be given a decent amount of time at home, especially if the boys are struggling. Due to the new structure of homework, maybe a little extra Irish could be considered if the boys are finished their workload early in the week.

I always try and make Irish lessons fun and for the most part, they do enjoy it! They partake and are enthusiastic, especially when there are dojo points or the odd lollipop up for grabs!

Basically, all I can say is that I'm doing all I can to get them to where they're meant to be and together, we can try to get them to love the language and try their best.

Is mise le meas,
Ms.Fannin

Request for soccer players from Jospehs team

The following email came in to the school and may be of interest to some boys in the class. If anyone is interested please contact Trish in the office...

Joseph's under 12 soccer team (born 2007) in Knocklyon United football club is looking for up to 5 players to make up their team. The teams have got bigger thjs year. Darragh from the other 5th class is also in his team. Ideally the boys should have played soccer before. It would be great if you could circulate this to 5th and 6rh class boys. You can give my mobile number as contact number. Many thanks

Visit to TY art room!

We were dying to get up to the TY art room on Thursday! Ms Browne and the Colaiste Eanna boys couldn't have been more welcoming and hospitable. Ms Browne had wanted the boys to make origami hearts and butterflies but this idea was quickly vetoed by her TY students who told her that paper claws would be a far better idea! And they were a huge success! We're looking forward to any other future TY collaborations...click read more to see the photos!

Quesadillas

Let the boys make dinner some evening!! They loved making these quesadillas today and by adding some tomatoes and onion or meat etc, they'd make a really tasty dinner dish!

Cooking next week!

Image result for quesadilla chicken

The next recipe that we will be attempting is the quesadilla. Following on from the scrambled egg success, the quesadilla will allow us to learn about the next hero ingredient - cheese and also practise the next key cooking skill - flipping.

We will be cooking next Wednesday 13th and the boys don't have to bring anything as I will provide the ingredients. Photos to follow!

Mini bridge lesson 1

We had a fantastic first lesson in mini bridge today! We had help from two lovely ladies called Sheila and Mary who are expert bridge players themselves! We started off by learning about tricks using one suit and added a second suit shortly after. The third and fourth suits will be added next week and we will be experts before long!

Cheeverstown

We had our second and last visit to Cheeverstown today and the boys were fantastic again! Photo of the day goes to Matthew Hayden and his new friend Daniel!
